The University Of Tennessee College Of Veterinary Medicine admits approximately 100 students into the professional program every year consisting of 70 in-state residents and 30 out-of-state residents.
The Admissions Cycle begins in January of each year.

The VMCAS web-based application will be available online at: https://portal.vmcas.org/VMCAS, established by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, is a centralized application service which provides for the collection, processing, verification, and distribution of applicant data to participating colleges.VMCAS is not involved in the admissions decisions. Admissions decisions are the prerogative of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

This payment is REQUIRED for admission to the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Completed applications must be submitted online to VMCAS no later than September 18, 2023. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation and all college transcripts must be submitted for the application to be considered complete. The Supplemental Application Fee must be paid no later than September 18, 2023, @ 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
Recommendation LettersIt is the applicant’s responsibility to request a minimum of three (3) VMCAS Evaluation Forms and Letters of Recommendation to be submitted electronically. Three letters of recommendation are preferred; six (6) letters of recommendation will be the maximum number of evaluations accepted.
TranscriptsRequesting transcripts be sent to VMCAS is also the responsibility of the applicant. Transcripts must be sent directly to VMCAS.
*A NON-RESIDENT APPLICANT MUST HAVE A MINIMUM CUMULATIVE GPA OF 3.2 ON A 4.0 SCALE, AND A TENNESSEE RESIDENT APPLICANT MUST HAVE A MINIMUM CUMULATIVE GPA OF 2.8 ON A 4.0 SCALE TO BE CONSIDERED. THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THE ABOVE MENTIONED MINIMUM GPA REQUIREMENTS WILL BE GIVEN IF AN APPLICANT HAS MADE A DISADVANTAGE DECLARATION BY PROVIDING A DISADVANTAGE STATEMENT ON THEIR APPLICATION.

In all categories, grade point average (GPA) is calculated on all course work attempted, including repeated courses.

Phase Two Evaluation: Holistic Packet ReviewApplications are reviewed by a team of 2-3 faculty members. The maximum points an applicant can achieve for Phase Two is 27, which is normalized to a percentage of 100. Complete applications will be assigned to faculty members and scored based on the criteria listed below.
The third phase of the selection process is the personal interview. Most applicants selected for the Phase Three Evaluation will be contacted for an interview, although a select group of applicants may receive pre-interview offers. Interviews are conducted during a single live but virtual meeting with members of the College faculty, staff, alumni and/or students. Each interview team member scores the applicant independently. The Academic Review (Phase One) constitutes as 40% of the total score. The Holistic Packet Review is 35% and the Interview is 25% of the total score, to give a Total Adjusted Score that is used to help make final selections for candidate offers and for an pool of alternate candidates.
